Top 3 Tips for Taking Your Multivitamin

Here are three tips to keep in mind when taking your multivitamin.

Three tips for taking a multivitamin

  • Take it with food: By taking your multivitamin with food you ensure optimal absorption.  The food triggers the digestive system and enzymes to break down the food which will also help to break down the vitamins for easier digestion and absorption.  This can help decrease stomach upset when taking a multivitamin.  Also, some vitamins are water soluble and some are fat soluble.  Fat soluble vitamins need fat in order to be absorbed by your body.  If you take vitamins on an empty stomach the fat-soluble vitamins will not be absorbed.

  • Split the dose:  Many multivitamins require you to take multiple capsules in order to get the full daily dose.  This does not mean you have to take them all at once.  I like to take one dose at breakfast and one at dinner.  This spreads out the number of capsules I take at once which decreases the amount of vitamins my body has to process at once.  I get the benefit of my vitamin through out the day and night.  Water-soluble vitamins will be absorbed by your body and any excess will get flushed out in the urine (ever notice a change if color of your urine after taking vitamins?).  When splitting up the dose, your body will be able to absorb and use more of the vitamins.

  • Drink lots of water: Water is critical for digestion.  Having enough water in your intestines will help increase the digestion and absorption of the vitamins and minerals.  Water-soluble vitamins need water to dissolve so that they can be absorbed by your body.

Testimonials

  • "This was my first chiropractic visit and I will definitely continue to see Dr. Venessa! The space is beautiful and clean. The person working reception was welcoming, knowledgeable and seemed happy to answer my questions. I was able to complete my paperwork before coming in so there was no wait. Dr. Venessa asked me some questions and did a sort of assessment before my adjustment. She kept me informed of what she would be doing and has a nice bedside manner so nothing seemed awkward. She finished my adjustment and I checked out. All in all I had a great experience in the office but what happened after was even better- my energy increased like crazy! At first I didn’t even consider it might have been from my adjustment. I was just talking with my husband when he asked if I thought it may have been from my chiro appointment so I googled it and apparently that’s common! So again, very happy with my experience and I will be back!"
